What’s at Stake Today
High-quality early childhood programs are good for children, good for families, and good for the economy. Child care helps parents work and children learn — but for many children from low- and moderate-income families, these programs are often out of reach. Increased federal funding is critical to make sure families have access to the high-quality, affordable care they need.
What Is NWLC Doing?
With the right policies in place, we can improve the quality of child care, ensure the health and safety of children in child care, and make it easier for families to get the care they need. We call on lawmakers across the political spectrum to support funding for early childhood programs that will increase access to high-quality care for families so parents can work or receive education and training to improve their job prospects..
From the major federal child care program, the Child Care and Development Block Grant, to the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which feeds more than three million children every day, we advocate for policies and effective policy implementation that will make a difference in the lives of the next generation. We also partner with national and state organizations to support policies that will make child care more accessible to families.
