Amid Anti-Immigrant Attacks, New NWLC Resource Explores Critical Link Between Immigration & Caregiving

Washington, DC (April 22) — The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) released a new resource exploring the vital connection between immigration and the nation’s caregiving infrastructure. Four Things You Should Know About How Immigration Impacts Care Work underscores the indispensable role of immigrant workers—especially immigrant women—in supporting our already precarious caregiving system.

“If caregiving is the backbone of our workforce, then immigrant women are the heart,” said Karla Castillo, senior policy analyst for federal child care at NWLC. “Without immigrant women, our caregiving system would collapse. That’s why it’s critical to push back against this administration’s harmful attacks on immigrant communities and advocate for pro-immigration policies that strengthen the caregiving workforce and our overall economy.”
Four Things highlights key statistics on immigrant contributions to the care economy, the unique challenges immigrant workers face, and the damaging effects of restrictive immigration policies. It also presents a forward-looking vision of how inclusive, pro-immigrant policies can help build a more resilient and equitable care infrastructure that benefits everyone.
This resource is part of NWLC’s ongoing commitment to uplifting the stories of immigrant caregivers and advocating for policies that ensure a strong, sustainable care workforce for all.
