NWLC Statement on Administration’s Memo Targeting Dissent
Washington, DC – The Trump administration today issued a new memo that seeks to drastically expand law enforcement’s power to silence and intimidate those who disagree with the administration, including nonprofits.
Emily Martin, chief program officer at the National Women’s Law Center, released the following statement in response:
“Donald Trump’s nonstop, anti-American efforts to criminalize, coerce, and intimidate those who oppose him are unprecedented in our country’s history. His memo cynically uses the language of ‘domestic terrorism’ to seek to drastically expand law enforcement’s ability to crack down on organizations and individuals that dare to challenge him. The true purpose for this executive action is to silence those who disagree with the president’s agenda and chill all attempts of advocacy and protest that are the lifeblood of our democracy. As a gender justice organization dedicated to protecting women and girls — including Black women and trans women — we will not be silenced.”
