What’s at Stake Today
Head Start takes a comprehensive approach to what children and families need, offering education, health care, social services, and nutrition services, all while putting the focus on parents’ involvement and building on the strengths of local communities. But funding for Head Start falls far short of meeting the need..
What Is NWLC Doing?
Early care and education is essential for children in their earliest years of life, particularly children in poverty. Yet Head Start serves less than half of eligible preschoolers and Early Head Start reaches less than 5 percent of eligible infants and toddlers.
We partner with local, state and national organizations to support increased funding for Head Start and policy improvements — because we’ve got to make sure all children get a strong start to help them succeed in school and in life.
