Title IX opened doors to women and girls to play school sports and reap the benefits of athletic participation, and we are still fighting to ensure everyone has an equal chance to play, including trans women and girls.
More than 50 years after the passage of Title IX, women and girls still face many more obstacles to participating in athletics than boys and men. From inadequate training facilities to rampant sex harassment and violence perpetrated by coaches and staff, to a lack of teams, women and girls are blocked from reaching their full potential in athletics. Extremists’ attacks on trans girls and women does nothing to deal with the actual inequities facing girls’ and women’s athletics and exposes all girls and women playing sports to sex testing and harassment if they don’t conform to gender stereotypes.
