NWLC Responds to Biden Administration’s NPRM on Title IX’s 50th Anniversary

(Washington, D.C.) The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“Today, on Title IX’s 50th anniversary, the Biden administration has taken critical action to support students, who have fought tirelessly alongside advocates, to ensure schools prioritize and affirm their rights and dignity. This rule is a necessary step toward rolling back the harm of Betsy DeVos and the Trump administration’s weakening of protections against sexual harassment in schools, and a move toward affirming the rights of pregnant and parenting students and LGBTQI+ students to learn with safety and dignity. To fulfill Title IX’s promise in protecting all students, we urge the Biden administration to move quickly to affirm the ability of trans students to fully participate in sports.

“Despite Title IX being the law for half a century, too many students still face vicious and illegal sex discrimination. We hope that today, on this important anniversary, we move closer to a world where all students can safely learn and thrive. We will not stop fighting until this is a reality, and look forward to engaging with the administration to strengthen this rule.”
