Shengwei Sun

Senior Research Analyst, Income Security and Child Care

Shengwei Sun is a senior research analyst at the National Women’s Law Center, where she leads quantitative research on Income Security and Child Care and ensures rigor in data analyses. Shengwei was previously a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research where she published research on the effectiveness of state-level pay transparency laws in the U.S. and on the impacts of the pandemic-induced recession on women and girls with an intersectional lens. Prior to that, Shengwei was a postdoctoral fellow at the Washington University in St. Louis where she studied the gendered consequences of pay secrecy practices in the contemporary workplace and taught undergraduate statistics. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, NPR Marketplace, and Forbes, among others. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park and a B.A. in Politics and Gender Studies from Scripps College. Her dissertation received support from the National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant.
