NWLC Responds to Senate GOP Plan to Gut Family Programs

Washington, DC (Feb. 7) –  Senate Republicans today released their budget resolution, advancing Donald Trump’s policy agenda, to continue unprecedented attacks on immigrant families and pave the way to  provide billionaires and mega-corporations with even more tax cuts – which they plan to pay for by taking away nutrition  assistance, care for aging and disabled people, health care and other critical supports that families rely on to make ends meet. 

Maribel Ramos, government relations director at the National Women’s Law Center, responded with the following statement: 

“Donald Trump and Senate Republicans’ budget resolution is a direct betrayal of the voters for whom they promised to lower costs. Their budget blueprint shows that instead of providing relief, they plan to do the exact opposite — paving the way for cuts to essential programs like child care, nutrition, health care, and housing that will shift the burden onto women and families. These cuts will also pay for more detention centers and continued attacks on immigrant communities. We expect them to go to the same playbook for even more cuts, to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest and big corporations.  

Elon Musk and Donald Trump want us to believe that decimating the federal workforce, cutting international aid for poor children, and demonizing trans children will solve the real problems families are facing. This all while distracting us from a budget that with each page, makes a deliberate choice to pursue their disastrous and dangerous policies at the expense of everyday families.”
