NWLC Applauds Biden-Harris Administration’s Title IX Announcement

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Department of Education announced that it is beginning the process to reverse Betsy DeVos’s Title IX regulations, which radically weakened protections against sexual harassment in schools. The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) filed a lawsuit challenging these regulations last June. The Department will begin its process with hearings of survivors’ testimony, insights, and experiences to develop policies for preventing and addressing sexual harassment in schools.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of NWLC:

“It’s overdue that the page be turned on Betsy DeVos and the Trump administration’s deep mistrust of and hostility towards survivors. We’re heartened that the Department has chosen to start its process of addressing sexual harassment in schools by centering and prioritizing the voices and experiences of survivors. We urge the Biden-Harris administration to continue to focus on solutions that deliver the justice and dignity that all students deserve.”
