Taxes

NWLC fights for a tax code that centers and invests in women—particularly women of color and women with low incomes–LGBTQ people, and their families.

Child Care Tax Strategies

Paying for child care can be a major burden for many families. While federal and state tax provisions, like the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, can help some working parents offset their child care expenses, tax strategies are insufficient to address the care crisis without direct investments.

Family Tax Credits

Family tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), which boost earnings for low-wage workers and help families meet their expenses, can make a huge difference in the lives of women and families. NWLC is fighting to expand these and other refundable tax credits that make the tax system work better for women, people of color, and their families.

Federal Budget

We need the federal budget to prioritize the well-being and future success of women and their families–centering the women of color, women with low incomes, LGBTQ people, women with disabilities, and immigrant women who face the highest risk of economic insecurity. And we need to raise more revenue by asking those at the top to pay their fair share in taxes, not cut funding for programs that women and families rely on, in order to address budget concerns.

Federal Tax Policy

Policymakers have prioritized tax cuts for the top 1%, giving us a tax code that fails to raise adequate revenues, disproportionately benefits the wealthiest and big corporations, and contains too few tax provisions that increase racial, gender, and economic equity. NWLC is working to harness the tax code’s full potential to advance gender and racial equity by ensuring those at the top pay their fair share in taxes, making the tax code work better for everyday women and families, and raising more federal revenues to support investments in women and families.
