Elizabeth (Liz) Theran is Senior Director of Litigation for Education & Workplace Justice at NWLC. She focuses on federal and state antidiscrimination litigation advancing equal opportunity for women and girls in school and in the workplace. Before joining NWLC, Ms. Theran worked in the Office of the General Counsel at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for over twenty years, most recently as an Assistant General Counsel for Appellate Litigation Services.
Ms. Theran clerked for Judge Betty Binns Fletcher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Nancy Gertner of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Yale Law School, where she held a Coker Fellowship in Constitutional Law and served as a Notes Editor on the Yale Law Journal and an Articles Editor on the Yale Journal of Law & the Humanities. Ms. Theran also holds a master’s degree in classical archaeology from Oxford University (Lincoln College), and graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College with a concentration in classical archaeology.
Ms. Theran is admitted to the bars of New York and Massachusetts; her application for admission to the D.C. Bar is pending. She is also admitted to practice in various federal courts across the country.
