Having the freedom to decide if and when we have kids, and how to raise, care, and provide for our loved ones is fundamental to living the life we choose. This freedom includes our rights as workers and caregivers, such as rights to unionize, paid family leave, affordable child care, aging and disability care, and so much more.
Now, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, it’s time to make it crystal clear how abortion rights and access are connected to so many of our other rights and freedoms. Rather than being divisive, abortion is a unifying issue across people’s lives.
Abortion Unites Us provides social justice movement partners with the resources they need to understand, articulate, and amplify the connections between abortion and other social justice issues, and empowers them to get involved. Ultimately, our fights are one and the same.
The first round of resources focuses on the intersection of abortion, economic security, and labor. People have more control over their economic security when they can make their own decisions about their bodies and what’s best for their families. These decisions affect their financial well-being, job security, and their ability to work and go to school. Access to abortion care increases people’s ability to plan for their future careers and lives.
