Senate Vote is a Missed Opportunity to Ensure Strong Reforms Dealing with Sexual Harassment Committed by Members of Congress

Posted on May 24, 2018 Issues: Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Workplace

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the United States Senate passed a bipartisan bill to address sexual harassment in Congress.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:

“Today the Senate had a historic opportunity to join the House to deliver needed protections against sexual harassment for those working for the legislative branch, but its efforts fell short. Nevertheless, the Senate bill marks another important step in efforts to strengthen protections against sexual harassment—and the work is not done. We urge the House and Senate to come together in conference to develop legislation that will secure strong protections against sexual harassment for the legislative workforce and ensure accountability for harassers.”
