NWLC: White House Establishes Women’s Health Division Amid Major Attacks on Women’s Health

Washington, DC – The Trump administration just announced an executive order establishing the Women’s Health Division at the National Institutes of Health, with the aim of “advancing women’s health” and “improving health outcomes in all phases of life.” Yet, in 2025, the administration and Republican leaders in Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which according to the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), has already had devastating effects on women’s health care access and health outcomes.

“Women’s health has long been ignored as a federal priority, and while we agree that steps must be taken to close disparities in women’s health care, it’s hard not to point out the blatant hypocrisy of this unfunded order coming from an administration that is actively decimating health care access for women,” said Dorianne Mason, senior director of health equity and contraceptive access at NWLC.

“This order seemingly contradicts the administration’s absurd claims that any program focused on women constitutes ‘illegal DEI,’ and it also comes as the administration’s actions are directly causing women to lose access to vital health care. From the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s cuts to Medicaid and the defunding of Planned Parenthood, to gutting the federal Offices of Minority Health and slashing funding for women’s health research, this administration has made it clear that it doesn’t actually care about women’s health care needs, despite what this weak executive order attempts to convey. This is an attempt to change the headlines, not women’s lives.”

The National Women’s Law Center has released several resources documenting the Trump administration’s attacks on women’s health care, including:
