NWLC Reacts to Trump’s Hiring of Bill Shine as Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Assistant to the President

(Washington, D.C.)  Today, President Trump announced that Bill Shine will become his assistant and deputy chief of staff for communications. Fox News fired Shine as its co-president in May, 2017 for allowing and then covering up the sexual harassment of women employees by Roger Ailes and other executives at the network.  Shine later tried to save Bill O’Reilly’s on air job after his multimillion dollar settlements to silence women were exposed.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“It’s an appalling decision—but it shouldn’t be a surprise—that President Trump has rewarded Bill Shine’s abysmal record of enabling and concealing sexual harassment,” said Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center. “The President’s choice runs counter to widespread efforts to address and prevent sexual harassment at this moment of reckoning. This country deserves better.”
