NWLC Statement on House Passage of Budget Resolution

Washington, DC – Maribel Ramos, senior director of government relations at the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), released the following statement after House Republicans passed their budget proposal to advance President Trump’s legislative agenda.

“The Republicans’ budget framework is filled with broken promises to families. Instead of helping everyday people, their framework prioritizes new tax breaks for the wealthiest at the expense of women and families, while funneling more money to fund inhumane attacks on immigrant communities.

“This budget means drastic cuts to programs that will drive up costs for health care, groceries, education, housing, and child care – putting even more financial strain on families already struggling to afford the basics. If Trump and House Republicans really intended to lower costs for families, they would invest in caregiving, expand the Child Tax Credit for the families who need it most, and tackle the housing crisis. Instead, they passed a budget resolution that will enable billionaires to buy their second yacht while making life more expensive for the rest of us.”
