NWLC Responds to the FY25 House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHSE) Appropriations Bill.
The measure includes harmful policy riders to stop enforcement of rules implementing Title IX of Education Amendments of 1972 and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, drastic cuts to education programs, including Title I funding and student aid.

“As we just celebrated the 52nd anniversary of Title IX, we are frustrated by a House appropriations bill with riders that would prohibit the enforcement of the Department of Education’s essential Title IX rule. These Title IX rule protections are crucial for safeguarding the rights of all students, especially LGBTQI+ students, survivors of sexual violence, and pregnant and parenting students by ensuring that schools are more inclusive and equitable.
“All students deserve to go to school with the freedom to learn and be themselves without fear of harassment or discrimination. Congress must protect women, girls, LGBTQI+ youth, and pregnant and parenting students by opposing this harmful appropriations bill and ensuring that Title IX’s regulatory protections remain strongly enforced.”
