NWLC Responds to SCOTUS’ Failure to Block SB8

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

Texans woke up this morning to the Supreme Court telling them they have fewer rights than people living in other states. SB8 effectively bans nearly all abortions in the state –and is designed to intimidate and harm those seeking abortion or those helping people access this basic health care. It is already devastating abortion access for Texans, and it is particularly damaging to people of color, especially Black women, people with low incomes, those living in rural areas, and immigrants without documentation.

“Millions of us have been ringing the alarm on Trump’s promise to put justices on the Supreme Court who would overturn the right to abortion. And now, it’s crystal clear his promise is becoming reality.  We will not give up because five Justices refuse to recognize the rule of law, the Constitution, and most importantly – our humanity. We will support the heroic Texan abortion providers, funds, and advocates and fight for everyone across the country to get the abortion care they need.”
