NWLC Responds to Biden’s Executive Action on Birth Control

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Biden administration issued an executive action to strengthen access to contraception. This action comes one day before the one-year anniversary of the devastating Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.

The executive order directs a whole of government effort to improve access to contraception, including actions to improve coverage under the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and Medicare.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“Extremist judges and policymakers have taken away our constitutional right to abortion and some policymakers want birth control to be next. We are relieved that the president is taking action to make certain that the federal government is doing everything in its power to protect and improve access to contraception. While improving access to contraception can never make up for losing the right to abortion, it is still critical to ensuring everyone can decide when or whether they want to grow a family.”
