In February 2025, the National Women’s Law Center produced a two-part CLE Series, Queer, Trans, and On the Stand: tools for advocating alongside trans, nonbinary, and intersex clients. This series educated participants on how to responsibly advocate for transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals—crucial for attorneys to support trans liberation amid hostile attacks against the LGBTQI+ community. Session I: FoundationsÂ
In this session, attendees developed the foundation needed to effectively represent the LGBTQI+ community, touching upon LGBTQI+-inclusive terminology, the basics of gender-affirming care, the history of the trans liberation movement and intersectional lens, and practices for centering trans joy and humanity.Â

Session II: Responsible Movement LawyeringÂ
Building on Session I, this session introduced attendees to thoughtful and informed allyship and advocacy, enhanced attendees’ understanding of the legal and policy landscape, and mapped out how to approach litigation in a responsible, trauma-informed, and LGBTQI+ inclusive manner.
