On March 21, 2024, the National Women’s Law Center and Women’s Sports Foundation, joined by 50 national and state/local organizations committed to gender justice and inclusive sporting governance, including USA Fencing, issued a statement to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary documenting our strong opposition to H.R. 7187 and all efforts to ban transgender girls and women from playing sports.

H.R. 7187 does nothing to remedy longstanding disparities that harm girls and women in sports. Anti-trans discrimination actually makes all girls and women less safe, because these policies enforce impermissible sex stereotypes and encourage body policing. Our organizations represent a strong consensus of the gender justice movement: championing rights of women and girls goes hand in hand with LGBTQI+ equality and inclusion. All transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people must be free from sex discrimination, including in amateur and Olympic/Paralympic sports.
