NWLC Reacts to Biden’s Executive Orders on Health Care

(Washington, D.C.) Today, President Biden will issue executive orders on health care – including reversing harmful changes made to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, immediately rescinding Trump’s global gag rule and directing the Department of Health and Human Services to take immediate action to consider whether to rescind the domestic gag rule.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“The Biden-Harris administration has started to undo Trump’s dangerous campaign to decimate health care. We’re relieved that the new administration is prioritizing improving access to health care, including reproductive health care. These executive orders are important first steps in addressing the unjust barriers to health care in our country.

“But let’s be clear: we are facing a reproductive health care crisis, compounded by the COVID-19 crisis and underlying systemic racism. The new administration must do more to urgently address the dire gaps in pregnancy related care, including abortion and birth control. We’re ready to work with this Administration to accomplish more sweeping change.”
