NWLC Celebrates Introduction of the EACH Woman Act

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the EACH Woman Act, or the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act, was introduced in Congress, in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The EACH Woman Act would lift bans that restrict insurance coverage of abortion and harm women’s health and economic security.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“Each of us should be able to make decisions about abortion without political interference, and the EACH Woman Act helps make this a reality. The Trump Administration has been relentless in its attempt to end access to safe, legal abortion. From pushing harmful anti-abortion bills to proposing regulations that serve as backdoor bans on insurance coverage of abortion, it’s clear that, for this Administration, attacking women’s health care is a top priority. The EACH Woman Act boldly rejects these sustained attacks by showing the country – and the Administration – what it really means to support women, including the one in four who need abortion care. We are thankful to our tireless allies in Congress, led by Congresswomen Barbara Lee, Jan Schakowsky and Diana DeGette and Senator Tammy Duckworth, along with all the co-sponsors of this important piece of legislation. We look forward to working alongside them to ensure that the decision to have an abortion does not depend on a person’s income, zip code, or source of insurance.”
