NWLC Applauds Passage of American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

(Washington, D.C.) The following is a statement from Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:

“Today’s passage of the American Rescue Plan represents a momentous victory for the women who have borne the brunt of a painful and tragic year, and we’re thankful for the organizers around the country who have consistently demanded this historic investment. Their dedication is why this bill contains so much support for so many in need, including expanded child tax credits, direct relief payments, incentives for Medicaid expansion, increased reproductive health funding with no restrictions on abortion access, and the largest investment in child care since World War II.

“As the impact of this crisis has illustrated, our path to recovery requires putting the needs of women of color at the center. Lawmakers should use this momentum and continue the fight for working families, including a $15 minimum wage and real paid leave. A full recovery will require investing in a durable and quality care system that meets the needs of families and workers over the long haul. We can rise to meet the challenge before us.”
