(Washington, D.C.) Today, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Representative Deb Haaland (D-NM-1) introduced the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act. This bill would help families afford child care, expand access to high-quality child care, and support early childhood educators. The limitations of our current child care system create serious challenges for families, children, and child care teachers across the nation, and require bold solutions and significant additional investments. This piece of legislation is one such solution and represents a step in the right direction for children, families, and early educators alike.

“We applaud the introduction of a bill that doesn’t view child care as a luxury item but instead sees it as an absolute necessity. It’s unacceptable that high-quality, affordable child care remains out of reach for millions of parents and their children. This bill confronts this reality and offers a concrete plan that would dramatically expand child care access and quality—and raise the wages of an underpaid child care workforce that is mostly women. It’s time for Congress to confront the serious gaps in our child care system and support hardworking parents, their children, and the workforce that cares for them.”
