NWLC Responds to Passing of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter

(Washington, D.C.) The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, NWLC President & CEO:

“All of us are forever indebted to the extensive work of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter. Her broad-reaching legacy forged a pathway towards equality for women and their families. Whether as the first woman to chair the House Rules Committee, her fierce defense of recent attacks on birth control and leadership in support of women’s legal right to access abortion, we are all better because of her leadership. She fought for extensive breast cancer research and for the inclusion of women in clinical trials to ensure medications met women’s health needs. Beyond health care, she pushed legislation to help domestic violence victims, advocated for equal pay, and campaigned for marriage equality.

“Our thoughts are with her family, colleagues, and everyone whose lives she touched. Congresswoman Slaughter’s commitment and spirit will continue to inspire us in the fights ahead.”
