NWLC Reacts to Supreme Court’s Decision Uphold Idaho Abortion Ban

(Washington, D.C.)  —  Today, the U.S. Supreme Court announced it will allow Idaho to enforce its near-total abortion ban, even in medical emergencies. The Court has also agreed to hear oral arguments on the case in April, with a ruling expected by the end of June.

In response, the following is a statement by Katie O’Connor, Director of Federal Abortion Policy at the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“The Supreme Court’s intervention into this case will accelerate the chaos that has been unleashed in the year since the Dobbs decision and will deepen the preventable public health crisis that is unfolding in front of our eyes. This decision will put the health and lives of people experiencing emergency pregnancy complications in danger, forcing many people to wait until they are on the brink of death before hospitals will let their doctors intervene. Everybody should have the freedom to make their own decisions about pregnancy and abortion, free from interference from politicians and judges.”
