NWLC Reacts to Supreme Court Stopping Judge Kacsmaryk’s Mifepristone Decision

Washington, DC – Today, the Supreme Court decided to stop Judge Kacsmaryk’s decision that would gut access to FDA-approved mifepristone.

The following is a quote from Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“We are relieved for patients, providers, and our democracy that mifepristone will remain available after the Supreme Court has blocked Judge Kacsmaryk’s order. However, we are also crystal clear on how close we came to losing an FDA-approved drug because of a fringe effort to override science. Our democratic systems are not functioning as they are supposed to when we come this close to losing a drug that is critical to abortion and miscarriage care, all due to misinformation regurgitated by Trump-nominated judges.

“In the last year, we have experienced unprecedented public health and legal crises. While today’s ruling is a welcome respite from a further expansion of those crises, we are clear that the nightmare is still not over. Both because we could see this case again at the Supreme Court and existing state abortion bans are still wreaking havoc in our lives. We know the public is exhausted by these endless court decisions that dangle our health care with the tip of their pen. But we will never stop fighting for what’s right and a future where we, not the courts or anti-abortion extremists, can control our own bodies, lives, and futures.”
