NWLC Reacts to Confirmation of Anti-Abortion Judge Chad Meredith to U.S. District Court
Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate voted 48-45 to confirm Chad Meredith, an anti-abortion extremist, to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), which led efforts to oppose Meredith’s nomination, issued the following statement in response:
“Senate Republicans voted to put one of the most extreme anti-abortion partisans in a lifetime judicial seat. This is a man who has devoted his career to controlling women’s bodies and eliminating the right to abortion,” said Alison Gill, director of nominations and democracy at NWLC. “As Chief Deputy General Counsel of Kentucky, Chad Meredith led the state’s anti-abortion crusade. He defended laws that force patients to undergo invasive and unnecessary ultrasounds before receiving abortion care, and upheld medically baseless, discriminatory restrictions designed to shut down abortion clinics. Meredith’s confirmation marks yet another step in Project 2025’s plan to turn our courts into tools for banning abortion nationwide.”
