NWLC Celebrates Introduction of the Women’s Health Protection Act

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) was introduced in Congress. The bill’s lead sponsors include U.S. Representatives Judy Chu (CA-27), Marcia Fudge (OH-11), and Lois Frankel (FL-21) and Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI). WHPA is federal legislation that would create a federal safeguard against abortion bans and medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion.

The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):

“The right to abortion is under unprecedented attack. For decades, anti-abortion legislators have passed hundreds of restrictions on abortion. And now, they are brazenly banning abortion in the hope that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade. We are grateful to our champions in Congress for stepping up to meet the urgency of the situation by introducing the Women’s Health Protection Act. It will restore the constitutional right to abortion and stop this senseless onslaught of bans and restrictions.”
