NWLC Applauds House Vote Approving Budget Deal

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the House of Representatives approved a two-year bipartisan budget deal reached by House and Senate leadership and the Trump administration earlier this week. The budget deal increases the overall spending limits for non-defense discretionary (NDD) funding. It avoids deep funding cuts that would have resulted from extending the draconian spending caps and increases funding levels for fiscal year (FY) 2020 from FY 2019. Following this vote, the U.S. Senate needs to approve the deal and then it will require the president’s signature.

National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) President and CEO Fatima Goss Graves issued the following statement:

“NWLC applauds the House for approving a budget deal that does not extend the harsh discretionary spending caps under the sequester. Removing these constraints is good news for women, children, families and communities – and all of us – and will allow for the investments we need in critical domestic priorities. We are committed to working through the congressional appropriations process to ensure that appropriations include increased investments, including in child care and housing assistance, as well as provisions that protect reproductive health care access for those struggling to make ends meet. We call on the Senate to swiftly approve this deal.”
