Linda McMahon’s Hearing Confirms Disastrous and Dangerous Vision for Students
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 13) — Linda McMahon’s testimony today before a Senate panel confirmed what a completely unqualified and dangerous choice she is to serve as the Secretary of Education.
Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, raised concerns earlier this week to Senate leaders about McMahon’s qualifications. She issued a statement following today’s confirmation hearing:
“Linda McMahon does not value public education or have any interest in prioritizing the safety of children. That was on clear display at the hearing which only cemented her intended role in fulfilling the Trump administration’s plans to dismantle the Department of Education. McMahon’s vague assertions that schools should follow civil rights law are not comforting following her role as chair of an organization that spearheaded attacks on a strong Title IX rule meant to ensure equal educational opportunity for all students.
“When asked directly about allegations of child sexual assault by WWE employees while she led the company, she dodged the question and gave yet another vague promise to protect students. This country deserves a Secretary of Education who takes child sexual abuse seriously and who we can trust to protect students.
“We need a leader who will prioritize safe and inclusive schools, protect equal access to education, and set students up for success. McMahon’s top priority is to weaken the Department of Education’s ability to support current and future students. The Senate should not confirm Linda McMahon to this critical role.”
