NWLC Responds to Trump’s Reversal of Unconstitutional OMB Memo

Washington, DC – The Trump administration rescinded an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memo purporting to halt all federally supported loan and grant programs. This reversal came after immediate public backlash and confusion over the status of critical federally supported programs, some of which went offline as a result of the order.

Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, released the following statement in response:

“Donald Trump’s OMB memo freezing federal grants and loans was a blatant and lawless attempt to steal from taxpayers and consolidate power for himself. This authoritarian power grab was only stopped because people across the country spoke out in alarm over what cuts to these critical programs would mean for them. This victory is a powerful reminder that our voices matter.

“As they have already signaled, this won’t be the end of this administration’s attacks on communities. Their goal is clear: gut essential programs to fund new tax cuts for billionaires. But we also know that public pressure works, and the rule of law remains – which is why it’s more important than ever that we stand firm against this administration’s unconstitutional overreach.

“This is also further proof that Russell Vought is unqualified to lead this essential department, as he was a mastermind behind Project 2025 and its extremists’ view that the president has unilateral authority to override critical investments in families and communities. We urge Senators to strongly oppose him.

“Our democracy is only as strong as those who fight for it, and the National Women’s Law Center is committed to leading that fight.”
