NWLC Reacts to Impending Vote on Kavanaugh

(Washington, D.C.) The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:
“Today Mitch McConnell ignored the voices of survivors, put partisan politics first, and pushed forward with Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination no matter what. It is crystal clear: Dr. Blasey Ford’s testimony, this FBI ‘investigation’, and this whole process has never been taken seriously by the majority of Senate Republicans. The FBI ‘investigation’ was hardly that. They did not speak with Dr. Blasey Ford. They did not speak with corroborating witnesses. And they rushed to meet artificial and arbitrary timelines. On top of this clear disregard for survivors and the severity of sexual assault, Brett Kavanaugh has proven himself to have zero credibility. He has repeatedly and deliberately misled the Senate Judiciary Committee and the American people about things large and small, and his performance at last week’s hearing was completely disqualifying. Make no mistake: Brett Kavanaugh poses a serious threat to the legitimacy and the integrity of both the U.S. Supreme Court and the Senate. But this fight is not over. The full Senate has the capability to end this national nightmare, and vote Kavanaugh down. It will be a career-defining vote for every single Senator, and the entire country will be watching.”
