The visibility and popularity of sports organizations such as the N.C.A.A. make them crucial players in debates over laws governing social issues, Fatima Goss Graves, the incoming president and chief executive of the National Women’s Law Center, said in an interview earlier this year. “The N.C.A.A. has long been a leader in outlining that it does not tolerate discrimination and addressing discrimination as a part of its core values,” she said. “Sports and sports culture drive change,” Ms. Graves added. “Sports entities serve such an important role.”
