After Congress repeatedly failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the Trump Administration is now doing everything it can to sabotage our health care – from cutting both the enrollment period in half and slashing public education and outreach funds to shutting down healthcare.gov for 12 hours every Sunday for “maintenance,” including on the VERY FIRST DAY of open enrollment on Nov. 1. But we see through their political games.
Enrolling in health insurance is an act of powerful resistance against this hateful administration that is committed to playing politics with our health and lives. Here are five easy ways to stick it to Trump and clap back at his attempted sabotage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA):
- Mark Nov. 1 through Dec. 15 on your calendar.
Starting Wednesday, Nov. 1, head over to HealthCare.Gov to find a plan that fits your needs. Mark the dates Trump doesn’t want you to know in your planner and set a calendar reminder.
- Enroll early.
A surefire way to stick it to Trump after all his relentless attacks on our health care? Enroll early so the politicians who are meddling in our health care can’t deny there is a huge (or should we say “yuge”) demand for health insurance coverage and support for the Affordable Care Act. The final deadline this year is December 15, and since the enrollment period is shorter this year, there will likely be a lot of website and call center traffic in the final days – beat the rush and enjoy peace of mind as soon as possible.
- Shop around.
New plans and prices are available each year, and this year it’s more important than ever to shop around so you can find a plan that best fits your needs. Another tidbit that Trump doesn’t want you to know: these plans may be more affordable than you think. Eight in 10 marketplace shoppers are able to get a plan for $100/month or less, plus premium tax credits and discounts on out-of-pocket costs may also be available.
- Encourage friends and family to enroll.
Once you’ve enrolled, give yourself a pat on the back, pour a glass of wine, and get those texting fingers ready to encourage friends and family to enroll for health insurance too! Our open enrollment toolkit is a great resource to include in that text or email. Good friends remind friends to get covered.
- Share our graphic to spread the word.
Even though Trump has cut public education and outreach funds, you still have the power to educate your own networks about the importance of enrolling in health care. Let’s make open enrollment go viral. Pun intended.
