Treat Yo’ Self to Health Insurance!

I recently got health insurance, and guess what I did to celebrate? I treated myself. I treated myself to dentist appointments, doctor appointments, and $0 copay birth control. It’s been awesome.

The stress of not having health insurance is real. After going without health insurance for a couple of years, I’m excited – and relieved – to be covered. I can finally get regular checkups, and I don’t have to worry that an emergency room visit will put me in debt as high as my student loans. Before health insurance, if I got sick or hurt, I would wait things out and hope I got better. Now, I can see a doctor and get the care I need and deserve.

Did I mention the $0 copay on birth control pills? I picked up my prescription the other day and didn’t have to pay a dime. That’s right. A big amazing ZERO. This was the first time in my life where I didn’t have to pay for birth control when I went to pick it up. Even though I was told that I shouldn’t have a copay, I still pulled out my wallet just in case I was wrong.  When the pharmacist handed me my little paper bag with my prescription and told me I was all set, my reaction was not unlike this:

and then this:

The last thing I treated myself to now that I’m covered? A flu shot.

I’m genuinely excited to have health insurance and access to health care that I didn’t have before. Now that I’m covered, it’s one less thing I have to worry about and it feels pretty darn good.
