The National Women’s Law Center submitted a comment to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) urging the Interagency Technical Working Group on Evaluating Alternative Measures of Poverty to meaningfully expand—not artificially shrink—poverty measures to include all women, children, and families experiencing economic deprivation, not just those currently counted as poor. Given the focus required by the Center and other stakeholders in responding to the COVID-19 health and economic crisis, the Center also urged OMB to reopen the comment period to provide the public with a meaningful opportunity to comment on ways to measure poverty accurately.
