In April 2024, the Biden administration’s Department of Education finalized new Title IX rules regarding sex-based harassment, anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination, and discrimination against pregnant and parenting students. Effective August 1, 2024, the new Biden rules undo many of the harmful provisions of the Trump administration’s sexual harassment rule, which pushed schools to ignore harassment and to use uniquely unfair and burdensome procedures to investigate harassment. The new rules also formalize greater protections against discrimination for LGBTQI+ students and pregnant and parenting students.
