As a second Trump administration approaches, we’re running out of time to confirm as many federal judges as possible to provide a check on his presidential power and curb his stated policy priorities.
The National Women’s Law Center, the Women’s Law Project, and several other organizations submitted an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court case Sveen v. Melin. The brief focuses on how women are more vulnerable in retirement because they typically have fewer resources, assets, and savings; and how divorce exacerbates that vulnerability. Amici argue that states shouldn’t automatically take ex-spouses off accounts like life insurance policies (or IRAs) when a couple divorces.
