NWLC Submits Comment in Response to the U.S Department of Agriculture’s Request for Information on Data and Research
On April 6, 2026, the National Women’s Law Center submitted a comment in response to the U.S Department of Agriculture’s request for information on data and research produced by the USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS) and other sub-agencies. In our comment, NWLC highlights the critical importance of maintaining and strengthening the Food Security Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS-FSS)—the nation’s most comprehensive and reliable source of data on food insecurity. NWLC’s comment underscores how this dataset is essential for understanding the scope and severity of hunger in the United States, particularly among women, children, and communities of color. The comment also emphasizes the need for continued annual data collection, improved data accessibility, and expanded research that captures disparities across demographic groups. Ultimately, preserving this vital data ensures that policymakers, advocates, and researchers can effectively address food insecurity and advance economic justice.
