NWLC Comments on FCC Notice Contemplating Anti-Trans Media Advisories
The National Women’s Law Center, MomsRising, and PFLAG National submitted comments to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on May 22, 2026 in response to the FCC’s public notice seeking comment on content warnings before television programming featuring transgender characters or themes related to gender identity. The FCC’s public notice contemplates content advisories that would single out and stigmatize trans and nonbinary people, causing serious harm to LGBTQIA+ families, especially trans and nonbinary youth.
Our organizations collectively rejected the FCC’s false narrative that parents broadly seek to shelter their children from stories about diverse communities. Indeed, parents currently benefit from excellent tools to regulate TV content for children, and adults as a whole strongly favor diverse and inclusive media. We urged the Commission to terminate proceedings and take no further action.
