(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Trump Administration released broad principles for its forthcoming tax reform proposal. Despite President Trump’s promise that the focus of his Administration would be to help ordinary working people, his tax proposal would principally provide huge tax cuts for the wealthy and large corporations. Combined with his budget proposals that would starve programs that are essential to the wellbeing of women and families, the tax plan would divert trillions of dollars from vital federal programs and services and exponentially expand the federal deficit.

“We’re not falling for this bait-and-switch,” said Anna Chu, NWLC Vice President for Income Security and Education. “The Trump Administration’s economic plan—consisting of large tax cuts to those who need it least and a draconian budget gutting critical programs that keep low-income families out of poverty—is a disaster for women and families.

“Instead, tax reform needs to help the most vulnerable and expand opportunity for all. We urge the Trump Administration to go back to the drawing board and craft a proposal that works for everyone.”
