TODAY: NWLC Urges HELP Committee to Reject Trump’s Anti-Worker Nominees

WASHINGTON – Today, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will hold a hearing on several of President Trump’s nominees for positions tasked with protecting the rights of workers, including:

  • Andrea Lucas, the current Acting Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), who is nominated to serve a second term at the EEOC, and
  • Jonathan Berry, the author of the Project 2025 labor chapter, who is nominated to serve as the Solicitor for the Department of Labor

The National Women’s Law Center Action Fund has authored a letter, joined by more than 60 civil rights organizations, calling for the Committee to reject the nomination of Andrea Lucas, and sent a letter with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the National Partnership for Women & Families opposing the nomination of Jonathan Berry.

The following is a statement from Gaylynn Burroughs, vice president of education and workplace justice at NWLC Action Fund:

“These nominees are more concerned with enforcing the will of President Trump than enforcing the law, and they are dangerous to workers. Their track records make clear that they will put workers in jeopardy either for corporate profit or to win the favor of the president. That harms all workers, but especially women, LBGTQ+ workers, and workers of color. At a time when people across the country are already struggling to make ends meet and find stability at work, the last thing we need are sycophants, like Lucas, or a Project 2025 author, like Berry, who will make it more difficult to get a job, get a fair paycheck, and work  safely , free from harassment and discrimination. We urge the HELP Committee to put workers first and reject these nominations.”
