Over 175 Organizations Denounce Trump’s Sex Discrimination Executive Order in Scathing Letter

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 28) — The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) and a coalition of 175 organizations condemned as “cruel and lawless” the executive order signed by President Trump that discriminates against transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people and which falsely claims to be “defending women against gender ideology.”

In a letter co-signed by organizations championing women’s rights and gender justice — including The National Partnership for Women and Families, Equal Rights Advocates, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and American Association of University Women — the groups challenge the deliberate attempt to threaten the very communities the executive order claims to protect. They denounce the effort to demonize and discriminate in the name of “defending women,” affirming that an attack on transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people – including women and girls – is an attack on all women.

“President Trump’s executive order is hypocritical and harmful, claiming to protect women while simultaneously undermining their rights. If President Trump truly cared about protecting women and girls, his administration wouldn’t have celebrated stripping away the federal constitutional right to abortion or pushed policies that weakened core anti-sex discrimination protections, including protections against sexual harassment,” said Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of NWLC.

“Instead, he has consistently nominated and appointed men with records of abusing women and cut critical programs that many women rely on for survival. And let’s not forget: this is the same man who has been found liable for sexual assault. We will not remain silent while his attacks on women and girls go unchecked.”
