NWLC Statement on President Biden’s Announcement to Withdraw from Presidential Race

Washington, DC – Following President Biden’s announcement that he has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential election, Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, released the following statement:

“We respect President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and are deeply grateful for his decades-long service to this country – in particular, his historic, whole-of-government efforts to protect and expand the rights of women, girls, and gender-expansive people.

“From prioritizing diverse judicial nominees committed to equal justice under the law, to signing the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, to leading the push for unprecedented investments in child care, and fighting to ensure that people can access the reproductive health care that they need in the wake of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, President Biden has made it clear that a path to prosperity for all people in this country is not possible without the work to advance gender justice.

“We have the utmost confidence that President Biden will continue to put the American people first as he finishes out the rest of his historic term in office, and we will work with him through January on these core issues. Over the next few months, we are eager to see President Biden continue his important work to lower costs for families, advance fundamental freedoms, and protect our democracy.”
