NWLC Statement on Chavez-DeRemer’s Confirmation
WASHINGTON (March 10, 2025) – The Senate today confirmed Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor.
Gaylynn Burroughs, vice president for education and workplace justice at the National Women’s Law Center, issued the following statement in response:
“Workers in this country need an uncompromising champion now more than ever, as President Trump continues to bludgeon equal employment opportunities and attack civil rights protections. Lori Chavez-DeRemer has made it clear she does not plan to be a champion for workers. Instead, she will be a rubber stamp for Trump’s regressive anti-worker agenda — an agenda that threatens the economic security, safety, and well-being of everyone, and puts women, people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQI+ individuals in its crosshairs.
Workers cannot afford to be abandoned by the Department of Labor. From factory floors to retail shops, science labs, and corporate suites, every worker deserves a shot at getting to the door and succeeding, with fair pay and dignity. Those are the values our Secretary of Labor should be fighting for and the ones to which we will hold her accountable.”
