NWLC Responds to the Nomination of Nicole Berner to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
The following is a statement by Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC):
“We are thrilled to celebrate the nomination of Nicole Berner to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. With over twenty years of experience in advocating for the rights of women, girls, LGBTQ individuals, and families, Berner is an exceptional candidate for the federal bench. We commend the Biden administration for this momentous nomination, where she will be the first openly LGBTQ person to ever serve on this court.
As a labor lawyer and reproductive rights litigator, Berner has fought to protect and advance the rights of all, including those fighting for a fairer and more dignified workplace. Her dedication to defending equal rights and expanding access to reproductive health care is crucial during these times when our fundamental rights are being threatened.
Our federal bench needs judges like Berner who possess the integrity and impartiality necessary to ensure equal justice for all and restore public trust in our judiciary. Her record, along with the diverse and pathbreaking appointments from the Biden administration—over two-thirds of whom have been women—will make our federal bench fairer and more just. We urge the Senate to swiftly confirm Nicole Berner.”
