NWLC Responds to Biden Administration’s FY2022 Budget Proposal
Washington, D.C) The following is a statement from Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center:
“Budgets are a representation of our values—and Biden’s budget is an examination of what it means to truly center women and their families in our nation’s recovery. Removing barriers to abortion care is a critical part of these efforts, and eliminating Hyde and the DC coverage ban is an important first move towards ending the many ways our federal budget and policies make it harder to access this critical care. These bans have created the heaviest burden on people of color and those who can least afford care. The work is far from done. To truly ensure economic, racial, and gender justice, abortion must be available to everyone who wants it and every budgetary abortion restriction – including the Weldon amendment – must also be eliminated. From state legislatures to the Supreme Court, our right to abortion is under attack. We now turn to Congress to take bold action that protects everyone’s right to available and affordable abortion care.”
