Washington, DC – The House Committee on Ways and Means advanced the Republican-led H.R. 10356, a bill that would further politicize the pronatalist, anti-woman website, Moms.gov, which the Trump administration launched in May 2026. 

“Instead of fixing the politically biased, dangerous misinformation on Moms.gov, Republicans on the committee pushed forward legislation that would further embed false and inflammatory messaging about abortion and pregnancy on the website,” said Jackii Wang, director of government relations for reproductive rights at the National Women’s Law Center. “The Ways and Means Committee has the power to require the administration to make a genuinely useful resource, helping parents access paid leave, learn about their rights in the workplace, or receive evidence-based nutrition and health care support for moms and their infants. By advancing legislation that is nothing more than a propaganda tool for the anti-abortion movement, Republicans on this committee are not just ignoring the needs of women; they’re putting their health and safety at risk.”

H.R. 10356, the so-called “Empowering Moms Act,” would direct HHS to expand Moms.gov as a resource directory for pregnant women and parents, including by collecting resources from states and creating a grant program. But the bill is actually intended to mislead people about abortion care – including by directing them to anti-abortion centers that coerce and shame people out of seeking abortion care – and to demonize abortion providers.

Among other things, the bill:

• Explicitly bans funding for abortion clinics or sharing any information about these health care providers through the website; 

• Suggests states provide resources on “abortion pill reversal” – dangerous claim unsupported by scientific evidence; 

• Perpetuates stigma around abortion care including by requesting resources on “Healing and support services for abortion survivors and their families;” 

• Provides financial support for anti-abortion centers while discouraging people from seeking abortion care or resources. 

Following the launch of Moms.gov in May 2026, NWLC released a statement calling it a “pronatalist, anti-woman website.” NWLC has also developed a range of resources exposing the Trump-Vance administration’s extreme pronatalist agenda, including a recently released fact sheet detailing how the administration’s attacks on Title X and the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program are part of a broader effort to undermine women’s social, economic, and political power under the guise of pronatalism.
